2026 Camera Dept Fundamentals Workshop
Camera Department Fundamentals Workshop
Step onto set with confidence.
The Camera Department Fundamentals Workshop is a hands-on, practical day designed to bridge the gap between film school (or zero experience) and the real pace of a working film set. You’ll learn the core skills, etiquette, and workflows expected in the camera department, taught by working professionals and built around real-world gear.
Across four guided workstations, you’ll rotate through essential topics like set protocol, communication, and how the camera department works alongside grip, lighting, DIT and VTR. You’ll get familiar with the fundamentals of camera equipment and workflow, learn what’s expected from assistants and trainees, and gain a clearer picture of how to build good habits that make you valuable on any production.
You’ll also spend time around a camera truck workstation—because knowing how a set is supplied, organised, and run is a big part of understanding how the department actually works.
You’ll learn:
Film set etiquette, professionalism, and on-set communication
Core camera department roles and responsibilities
Camera gear fundamentals and how the workflow runs on real productions
How camera and grip departments work together
How to collaborate with DIT and VTR teams
What to wear, what to bring, and how to carry yourself on set
Basics of freelancing and running your crew business
Perfect for emerging camera crew, film students, career changers, and anyone who wants to build a solid foundation before stepping onto bigger sets.
Spots are limited. Secure your ticket and start building real on-set confidence.
